Set against the dramatic silhouette of Edinburgh Castle, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo brings together the finest military bands, dance ensembles, and precision drill teams from around the world. Every August, this iconic festival transforms the Esplanade into a dazzling stage of sound, movement, and emotion capped with breathtaking fireworks, state-of-the-art lighting, and the poignant silhouette of the Lone Piper marking each finale.

As one of the crowning jewels of the Edinburgh Festivals, the Tattoo is a global celebration of military heritage and international artistry. With performers from over 50 countries and a live audience nearing 220,000 each year, its reach extends far beyond Scotland, drawing in millions via broadcast, from soldiers’ precision to Highland dancers' flair, all interwoven in a stirring, unforgettable performance.

Hotel

Royal George Hotel

Located on the banks of the River Tay in the heart of Perth, the Royal George Hotel comes with lovely river views and is just a short walk from the cities shops, bars and restaurants. The hotel has been welcoming guests since 1773 and Queen Victoria stayed here during her visit to Perth in 1848. The 45 bedrooms are traditionally furnished and equipped with TV, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities with many rooms offering views overlooking the Perth Promenade, Old Bridge and River Tay. The restaurant makes use of Scottish produce wherever possible and guests can enjoy drinks accompanied by river views in the cocktail bar. There is also a gym.

 

Itinerary

Fri - This morning we travel to Perth and arrive at the historic Royal George Hotel, a Grade-B listed Victorian-Renaissance gem originally established in 1773 and renamed in honour of Queen Victoria’s 1848 stay. Located on the banks of the River Tay in the heart of Perth, with easy access to the High Street and local attractions.

Sat - This morning enjoy a slow morning at the hotel before we depart for Edinburgh at 12pm. You can enjoy some time to explore the city before enjoying your evening meal in one of the many restaurants around Edinburgh. You then need to make your way to The Castle Esplanade for the performance of The Tattoo. Immediately following the performance please return to the pick up point promptly for the return transfer to the hotel.

Sun - Following a leisurely breakfast we depart the hotel late morning to commence the homeward journey.
