IMPORTANT UPDATE

From 28 September 2026, all passengers travelling with Irish Ferries between the Republic of Ireland and Britain must present a valid passport or Irish passport card before boarding. This FAQ explains the new passport requirement, which routes are affected, what forms of ID will no longer be accepted, and when an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) may also be needed for travel to Britain.

 

Do I need a passport for travel between Ireland and Britain with Irish Ferries?

Yes. From 28 September 2026, all passengers travelling on Irish Ferries services between the Republic of Ireland and Britain must present a valid passport or Irish passport card before boarding. The new passport requirement applies to Irish Ferries’ Dublin–Holyhead and Rosslare–Pembroke routes, in both directions.

 

This requirement applies to all passengers, including Irish and UK citizens. From 28 September 2026, driving licences, national identity cards and other forms of photographic identification will no longer be accepted for travel on these routes.

 

Irish Ferries is introducing this requirement to comply with UK Border Force requirements on the accuracy and integrity of passenger data before boarding.

We are pleased to announce that we are now travelling with Irish Ferries for our popular Summer Duty Free Dublin Day Trips!

Ferry Times

  • Outbound: Holyhead departs 7:30am, arriving in Dublin at 11:00am
  • Return: Dublin departs 7:45pm, arriving back in Holyhead at 11:15pm

Your Day

Enjoy an early morning departure from your local pick-up point as we travel by coach to Holyhead Port. After checking in, we'll board the Irish Ferries service to Dublin.

On arrival in Dublin, you'll have plenty of free time to explore the city, enjoy some shopping, visit the attractions, or take advantage of the excellent duty-free offers before returning to the port for our evening sailing back to Holyhead.

The ferry offers comfortable lounges, bars, restaurants, cafés, shops, and duty-free shopping to make your journey as enjoyable as possible.

Price Includes

  • Return coach travel
  • Return Irish Ferries crossing

Please note:

  • A valid passport or accepted photo ID is required for travel.
  • Full names (as shown on your passport/photo ID) and dates of birth must be provided at the time of booking.
  • Pick-up times will be confirmed approximately 2 weeks before departure.
  • We are required to arrive at the port 90 minutes before the ferry departs.
  • Duty-free allowances apply per adult aged 18 and over.
